So, yes, I’m a terrible updater. I could use the excuse that Cam ended school this week but it’s been weeks since my last post. O.K. actually like a month. Anywho, my wife irritates me to all end when she’s too wordy so I will just say, yup, I’m a terrible updated.
I’ve been on a bit of a diet this week. My first week not working at a bakery and therefore not having access to yummy fresh baked cookies seemed like a good starting point. I didn’t factor Cam being home all day and I being starving might wear on my patience. Needless to say, I had to jump in full force. This was all sort of jump started when I went shopping for ME. Yes, ME, not in the kids section but clothes for ME.
I’m not fat, no doubt, so please don’t give me that, “you don’t need to diet”. We’re coming or actually we’re in bathing suit season and man, I used to be hot! I’m 30 now with 2 kids but come on; I should still be able to rock a bathing suit without feeling like a total heifer.
So this week it was all conscious eating, no sweets. I will admit that I broke down one day and had a BLT and orange soda. Though I will note that same night when I had a salad and water, Mary had 3 pieces of pizza, 2 beers and the rest of the previously mentioned orange soda. I think she followed this with some sort of dessert and it was after 7 p.m. Obviously she’s not joining me in getting fit adventures. And last night, I did have a beer but we had a little cook out here with some of Mary’s students and co-workers. And for someone who usually drinks 1-2 beers/night, I hadn’t had one in a week. Maybe that’s another problem I should address…oh well, another time.
But I’ve been writing down everything I eat, in a way to “hold myself accountable” and exercising like mad. Mary keeps making fun of me but when we’re at the beach this summer, I’ll be happy that I’m not the one in a t-shirt :-) *hopefully*

Sabbatical (in a nut shell)
So I gave my notice at work today. My last day will be June 19. Though I'm taking the week before off for Pride since yes, I'm that gay. :-) Also, some family from Ohio is supposed to be visiting.
Anywho, I've been working part time as a cake decorator since about September. It's only one evening plus 2 days/week. I'm a little bummed to leave since it's been my freedom time. Like actual regular time when I'm outside of the house and not surrounded by children. On the hand, I do love being home with the kids and I've sort of started dreading my work schedule.
But my notice came mostly because of Mary's upcoming sabbatical. We will be spending the month of July traveling to visit in-laws. Then in August Mary will return to work and be starting to work from Woods Hole. This is where her sabbatical will be. What is a sabbatical? I don't know. I've kind of grown to hate the word. But basically, it's time off from teaching to pursue research and the real stuff that makes or breaks your tenure decision. **oh yes, for newbies to my random blogging world, Mary is a professor*
Mary thought we'd all move to Cape Cod for the year but I thought otherwise. So come September, she'll live there for most of the week in a house she's renting. Me and the kiddos will stay here and Cam can remain in his school. He's pretty much officially moving on to 1st grade even though we did debate him repeating kindergarten.
This seems kind of crazy to most. But Mary is a workaholic. As it is, most days she's off to work at 8 a.m. and then returns at 6:30 p.m. - usually expecting some gourmet dinner when she arrives. The kids go to bed at 7:30 p.m. So the hope is not much will change during the school week. Yes, I won't have the help but I'll parent on my own schedule. And Mary will be able to work 24/7 and hopefully produce lots of great research and papers that will ensure her tenure. I'm actually impatiently awaiting September just to see how this all goes. It's also a pretty sweet house on Vineyard Sound that me and the kiddos plan on enjoying on the weekend.

Formerly Known As
My former blog started out with the rantings of taking care of two foster children. Now, one of them is my 5 year old son. I also wrote of fertility struggles but I finally had a baby. He’s going to turn 2 on July 21.
So why blog again? With the new world of facebook, twitter, and all that other crap, pretty much everyone knows where I am and when. Or at least sees a profile pic of it.
But oh yes, I’m so crazy that I’ve decided to embark on the journey of domestic adoption or rather foster adoption. Though this time we’re hoping to skip the foster part and go right to a legally free child/children. Yes, I’m hoping for my daughter but something inside me says I’ll end up with another boy.
Anywho, here we are. Yes, I’m still saying “anywho”. I’ll try not to use it too much this time around. Anywho, we finished up our training here in Massachusetts. It was like pulling teeth with Mary as most things are lately. We’re not exactly on the same page. She’s going on sabbatical and I’m adopting a child but whatever, at some point I’m hoping we will meet in the middle.
Last week we had our final meeting with our social worker. Now, we wait for a completed homestudy and then hopefully a call about a baby girl…maybe, just maybe, hoping and waiting…
